It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically when the Queen’s Gambit Netflix series premiered, when the club president's passion for chess was reignited. It was chess that kept the sanity of his two younger brothers, the club’s CFO and the club’s logistics officer, while at a COVID-19 quarantine facility for fourteen days. A year and a half after the onset of the pandemic, the City of Maasin still did not have a legitimate chess club. With their love for chess, the two brothers cofounded MAASIN CHESS CLUB INC. and unknowingly instituted the rebirth of the now defunct MAASIN CHESS CLUB (MCC) INC. It was a typhoon about three decades ago that brought about the demise of MAASIN CHESS CLUB (MCC) INC. The brothers’ deceased father is believed to be one of the cofounders of the now defunct chess club. Perhaps it was destiny that paved the way for the rebirth of the chess club, but it was legacy that motivated the two brothers to cofound MAASIN CHESS CLUB INC. Mostly, it was passion that kept them both going.
