The Maasin Chess Club was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, inspired by the renewed passion for chess sparked by the premiere of the Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit”. The club president and his two brothers, who serve as the CFO and logistics officer, discovered the power of chess to bring comfort and stability during a 14-day quarantine. Despite the long-standing absence of a legitimate chess club in the city, the brothers decided to co-found the MAASIN CHESS CLUB INC., resurrecting the legacy of the once-thriving MAASIN CHESS CLUB (MCC) INC. that was lost to a typhoon three decades ago. The founders were motivated by their shared love for the game, their connection to the club's original legacy, and their unwavering passion for chess.
The mission of the Maasin Chess Club is to provide players of all ages with opportunities to improve their skills and earn their international ratings through FIDE-rated tournaments in Standard, Rapid, and Blitz formats. The club’s vision is to nurture the next generation of chess champions, including International Masters, Grandmasters, National Champions, and World Champions.
