About Us

The Maasin Chess Club was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, inspired by the renewed passion for chess sparked by the premiere of the Netflix series “The Queen’s Gambit”. The club president and his two brothers, who serve as the CFO and logistics officer, discovered the power of chess to bring comfort and stability during a 14-day quarantine. Despite the long-standing absence of a legitimate chess club in the city, the brothers decided to co-found the MAASIN CHESS CLUB INC., resurrecting the legacy of the once-thriving MAASIN CHESS CLUB (MCC) INC. that was lost to a typhoon three decades ago. The founders were motivated by their shared love for the game, their connection to the club's original legacy, and their unwavering passion for chess.

The mission of MAASIN CHESS CLUB INC. is to promote the sport of chess and provide opportunities for players of all skill levels to develop their skills and achieve their full potential. Our focus is on fostering a positive and supportive environment for players, encouraging growth and achievement through tournaments, training, and other events. We aim to be a leading force in the development of chess talent in our city and province, and to bring recognition to our community through the success of our players.

Our ultimate goal is to produce titled chess players and bring recognition to our city and province as a leading center of chess talent.
